Hello from Panama!
My group arrived on Wednesday night (via Miami) and we are staying right outside of Panama City until Sunday. My group consists of 20 Environmental Health (EH) trainees and 28 Community Economic Health volunteers. We are staying in villas with wireless internet and warm showers! From the Peace Corps office here, I can't see the canal but I can see the large boats. It is really strange because it looks like they are moving on land.
In my villa there are 3 trainees and 2 volunteers who have been here for a year already and are here to help out with training. They seem happy and used to life in the campo (countryside).
We have been extremely busy with info sessions about rules, regulations, banking, the Peace Corps Panama office, and our projects. We also had a Spanish interview to determine our placement for intensive Spanish classes starting next week.
On Sunday we are moving to our training site and host family - at this point the two training groups will separate so it will only be my Environmental Health group of 20. We will stay there for 9 weeks.
Tomorrow evening we are going shopping at mall in Panama City- I have not seen the city yet because it was so dark when we drove through it on Wednesday. Sunday we are visiting an EH training site in the campo. Next time I write I will be at my new training site!

ReplyDeleteyess another post! glad to hear you reached safely..post some pics when you get a chance. i've already framed the two pics of us from turkey and have them ready to put up in my new apartment :) there is no need to say this because I'm sure you will, but HAVE A BLAST!
